During July and August 2015, I led art programs for children in Chiclayo, a city on the north coast of Peru (South America). I worked with a wonderful partner, Centro Esperanza (Hope Centre). My name is Jamila. I am a grade 12 special-series visual arts student at Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts. I love to draw, paint, and create graphic art. My mom is from Peru, I speak Spanish fluently, and I have visited Peru several times. I have worked as a volunteer at the Art Gallery of Ontario summer camp and a City of Toronto camp. I am so happy to be working with Centro Esperanza, a small non-profit run by amazing women in Chiclayo. Centro Esperanza has been working for over 20 years with women and children in poor neighbourhoods in and around Chiclayo. The organization has a strong commitment to participation, human rights, and social inclusion. They will be supporting me by organizing the art classes. [More]
